Just in case

I just used my last gasket, so I ordered a few more to have on hand.

Perfect fix for shifting seat!

Definitely enhances the feel and function of the toilet. Because the Tiny is installed in a van bath and requires a “sideways” approach, the original seat felt like it shifted as you sat down, and we were having occasional failures of the gasket when rinsing the bowl. All is better now, and we’re loving the Tiny!

Need these

You definitely need these to help prevent urine crystals from forming and clogging the line. They also help with smell.

Excellent quality replacement and fast shipping!

Exact fit (as expected) and complete, quality replacement of the whole top half of the toilet (all cables, connectors, springs, attachments, etc.). Very satisfied with the replacement and the toilet overall!

Front stabilizer kit

The front stabilizer kit was a game changer for me. I’m so glad that this was provided. It made the seat very stable. It does not wobble at all when sitting on it. It also provides no leakage which happened occasionally. Highly Recommend.

I’m a fan!

I got quick and friendly service, and there was no hint of corporate odor in my transaction. Five stars!

12 boat shop toilet

I acquired this toilet from a friend and had it working for a few months when my fan or 24 V transformer went out based on suggestions of separate they told me to go 12 V and it comes with an amazing adapter that works all over the world! I know he will be using this in a future Bathroom and my new Barn.

Nicely moulded for the buttocks! ;)

I was pretty sure I needed to just go with a plain hole, the standard toilet seat, or the thick insulating foam in my newly constructed outhouse. It felt like loo blasphemy. Then I started searching... These seats are a great middle ground: aesthetically pleasing, nice colors, will the bumcheekies warm in the winter, won't toast them in the summer (this is Texas, y'all). I was raised by Finns up north and lived in Ukraine for 15 months, so they have a little more class than a hard hole, while still maintaining the outdoor outhouse feel. Just two comments: 1) I wasn't quite sure if the enclosed pieces were to install it for it's original purpose or in an outhouse (lack of instructions), so right now they are just sitting on top of the surface; and 2) when my husband tipped up the outhouse in order to allow me to grab a couple of drill bits that fell between the cracks of the entry, a couple of decorations fell and damaged the seats. It's not the seats' fault they lack moxie, of course, but it showed me that they are not as sturdy as they look--it is still just foam insulation. It would be nice if there was a thin protective layer to bind the surface better ["Great idea, buyer! We'll get right on that, call it our Moxie model, and send you the prototype!"]. If you'll be traveling with or moving them around, protect them from sharpish or falling objects. If anyone has suggestions on how to patch up little dents in the seat safely, feel free to email me at [****]. I would hate to have to buy a brand new set after a couple of weeks and one use on only one seat (thanks to my son for being that first brave little pioneer on the homestead--it was out of necessity, he rated it a 7, and remembered the ash!). Again, overall, happy and would (and may need to) purchase again.

Your review seriously made our day 😅 From “bumcheekies” in Texas to Finnish class in the outhouse! Big respect to your son too for being the first brave pioneer!
You’re totally right about the EPS, it does the job but isn’t built to battle falling decorations or outhouse gymnastics.

And no worries about the dents, we’ll send you a brand-new seat free of charge so you’re all set without having to play patchwork.

Thanks again for such an awesome and fun review, this is exactly the kind of feedback that keeps us smiling and improving.

Excellent product

I bought the Villa Extend in lieu of putting in a $10k septic in my off grid cabin. The build, fit, and finish are excellent. We have been using a home made composting toilet with the Separett styrofoam seat and urine diverter, and a five gal bucket, but I wanted something that looked good and could be used for extended periods without changing. Before that I used another brand that we couldn’t use bags with and it was nasty. We had to take the top off the toilet off and empty the bottom into a bag, and changing the urine bottle was even worse. I should have just bought the Villa in the first place. The install was relatively simple though my cabin already had some necessary features: French drain. The fan is plenty powerful, and we haven’t noticed any smell inside. It is definitely worth the money.

Happy to report these do their job very well.

Very pleased so far!

We installed the Separett Tiny toilet with urine container in our "tiny house on wheels" and have been using it for a little over a month now. While this is the only "compost" separating toilet we've used, we are quite pleased with it so far! We really like how it looks and fits in our bathroom too. For the installation, we did have to get a 1-1/2” flexible coupling and a short piece of 1-1/2” PVC pipe, since the provided vent pipe wasn’t long enough to reach where we needed it to go out through the wall. When we placed the order, it did feel like this product was more expensive than it should be. While we still feel that it was a steep price, that feeling is counteracted a bit by a few things: the toilet does seem well-made and durable, it has multiple valuable features, and Separett's customer service has been excellent.
Not every compost/separating toilet on the market has the "view screen" that keeps the solids container covered and hidden unless you are sitting on the toilet, which is a very nice feature to have. The fan that runs all the time is incredibly quiet and clearly works well, as we haven't noticed any issues with smells so far (other than when it comes time to empty the containers, of course. The odors involved with emptying both containers are unpleasant for sure, but that's a tradeoff for so much less water use and not needing a black water tank). We also use a spray bottle with a water-vinegar mixture to clean out the front/urine section of the toilet with a few sprays after each use. The red indicator light to show when the urine container is almost full is an absolute must-have, so we are very grateful for that too. It is a nice and bright red light, so there's no way to miss it, and you can safely go one more time after the light comes on before it has to be emptied.
The size/capacity of the urine and solids containers seems appropriate. From our research, they are somewhere in the middle amongst other separating toilets on the market. With the two of us using the toilet, the solids container usually needs to be emptied about once per week. The urine container needs to be emptied once every other day. On one hand, it would be nice if the urine container were slightly larger and could last a little longer, but it is already somewhat heavy when full (especially depending how far you have to go to empty it) and being fairly slow and smelly to empty, we wouldn't want that process taking too much longer. So, emptying that every other day seems reasonable to us.
Separett's customer service has certainly been top-notch. When we first received the toilet, the "view screen" wasn't closing all the way properly, and after sending an email, they were quick to reply with a link to a very helpful instructional video showing how to use certain adjustment screws inside the toilet to correct the issue. When we were having an issue with some urine leakage (yes, this was very disappointing and unpleasant, but we got it resolved quickly. Also, due to the design of the toilet, all the spills stayed contained inside the body of the toilet and didn't get onto our floor or anywhere else), they were again quick to reply to my emails and problem solve until we figured out a solution. It turned out that the urine nozzle we had on our toilet was a bad design, and that has since been fixed, so all the toilets now come with an upgraded urine nozzle (which they also sent out to us).
There are a few things we wish could be improved. The large yellow cap (that is used to cover the urine gasket/fill spot when you go to empty the urine container) has consistently been very stiff/awkward to **** on and off. This is most unfortunate after you have emptied the urine container and go to remove that large yellow cap, because it ends up with a little liquid in that cap, so it's challenging to remove smoothly/carefully to avoid a small spill/mess. It would be nice if the urine fill port and the urine empty spout had a slightly larger gap in between for easier cleaning. We chose to use the “urine bowl extension” piece, but it does get dirty under the edges of that quickly. We clean it off almost every time we empty the urine container, but it is already starting to stain there ,unfortunately. Lastly, we were spoiled and used to soft-close toilet seats before this, so it would have been nice if this had a soft-close lid, but definitely not a big deal to get used to not having that.
As long as this toilet holds up well and continues to function properly for a long time to come, we will be very happy with our purchase and choice of compost/separating toilet, and would definitely recommend this product to others!
We have more than five pictures that we were planning to share, but that’s all that the form allowed!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review, and for sharing your experience with the Separett Tiny in your tiny house on wheels. We’re very happy to hear that the toilet has been a good fit for your space and lifestyle, and that you’ve been pleased with its performance, design, and our customer service team’s support.

We truly appreciate you noting both what you’ve enjoyed - such as the quiet fan, view screen, red urine indicator light, and container capacity - and the areas where you see room for improvement. Feedback like yours is invaluable as it helps us refine our products. The points you raised about the yellow cap, cleaning access, and lid operation are all noted, and will be shared with our product development team.

We’re also glad to hear that our troubleshooting videos, upgraded urine nozzle, and prompt communication helped resolve the initial issues you experienced. Our goal is always to make sure our customers are supported both during and after installation, so it’s great to know that came through in your experience.

Thank you again for your detailed insights and recommendation.

Separett install

The Separett Villa arrived very quickly after ordering. It arrived intact with no damage. I installed it in our cabin a few days later. The installation went smoothly and everything I needed was included except the silicone I needed to seal around the pipe. We have not actually used it yet, but feel confident that it will meet our needs.

Best résponse time!

Great service! Superior quality and excellent response time!

Tiny

Have had the Tiny for a few years in my camper van. The bag system works great. Simple & clean.

Years of maintenance-free use

We have had the Separette diverting toilet in our van for a couple of years now, and let me tell you it is a game changer. Installation was simple because it only required a 12v power source and a hole for the exhaust vent. Maintenance is easy as it does not need any chemicals or special products.

We use our van almost every week for camping trips, and most recently lived in it for 6 months.

The toilet has performed flawlessly and does not smell. Basic maintenance includes rinsing the urine container with vinegar from time to time, and pouring sand or kitty litter in the solids container after every use.

The only part that has worn in all this time was the rubber gasket at the top of the urine container. When I went to look up a replacement part, I saw they had an upgrade. The upgrade includes a better shaped funnel and a way to prevent the front from depressing. With this upgrade I’m looking forward to many more years of maintenance free use.
