Self contained toilet for mobile installations!

Tiny® is the latest addition to the Separett family of toilets. The smaller design and lessons learned from several decades have led to a modern urine separation toilet that is especially suitable for installations where space is limited. This version of Tiny® has a container for both solids and liquid making it self contained. This gives an opportunity for installation in vans, boats and other mobile solutions where no external handling for any waste is available. The toilet can be operated with 110-230V or with 12V solar cell / battery power. The fan has very low energy consumption (0.04 kWh / 24 h) and is therefore suitable for battery or solar cell operation. The battery and battery cables are not included.

Unlike a traditional composting toilet there is no cranking or additives needed. The ADA compliant 17.5-inch seat height makes Tiny® as comfortable as a household toilet. Separett Tiny® is the best toilet solution for vans, tiny houses, RVs, boats, and off-grid properties.

What’s New!
We’ve upgraded the Tiny® for even better performance and durability. The front is now fixed in up-position for increased stability, and the new redesigned urine nozzle together with the removed movement of the front significantly reduces stress on the gasket - minimizing the risk of gasket damage and spills.

Buy a 2025 Upgrade Tiny and get a Ventilation Kit for free!

This offer is valid only on the first 50 orders of both Tiny models!

Easy to empty and to extend the capacity

Thanks to urine separation the smell is significantly reduced. What comes out is exhaust air from the 1,5" (schedule 20) ventilation pipe. When used by 2 people, the solids container needs emptying once a week. With two users the urine container needs emptying about every other day. Both the container for solids and liquids come with lids or caps which can be used to seal the containers. For boaters or people traveling for days in between waste disposal sites it's recommended to use multiple containers which can be sealed and stored before emptying. Extra containers are available as accessories.

Hygienic and odorless

Separett Tiny® has high operational reliability and is easy to install. The fan ventilates the possibly remaining odor that is left after urine separation. The constantly running fan also contributes to a better indoor climate by keeping the air in the space in motion. The fan is efficient and quiet.

Convenient

The view screens covers the solid waste container and the flaps open automatically when you sit down to use the toilet. This means that you never see the toilet waste except when it is time to empty.

5 year warranty

Waterless compost Separett Tiny® is covered by a five-year warranty.

Installation Instructions

Toilet placement

Separett Tiny has no requirements for room temperature and works in both cold and warm spaces. The only requirements are that you must be able to fit a ventilation pipe.

The toilet is made to be placed on the floor against the wall, and for extra stability it should be attached either to the floor, the wall or both.

Drill holes according to installation template

The installation instructions show possible installation options for urine drain and ventilation pipe through the wall, the ceiling or the floor. The installation template shows the places for holes in most common installations. These options enable an installation without visible pipes.

Install ventilation pipe

The toilet is designed for 50 mm and 1.5" (schedule 20) pipes. For optimal function it is recommended that you use Separett’s installation kit that has pipes and connectors in the correct dimensions. Separett Tiny can be installed with up to 16 1/2 feet of ventilation piping and two 90-degree bends. Ventilated air can go through a wall, floor or ceiling, for example, up into an attic and out through a suitable side of the house. If there is already a ventilation pipe present from a previous toilet installation, the toilet may be connected to that duct, provided that it is not smaller than 50 mm or 1.5" (schedule 20) and that it meets the piping requirements. Should you need longer piping that exceeds the recommendations above, you may install an extra fan (article number 13008).

The toilet comes with a coupling for connecting the toilet to 1.5 inch piping (schedule 20).

Handling of the Solid Waste

Many people dispose of toilet waste the same way they would dispose of diapers, but it’s also possible to compost it into nutrient-rich compost.

Keep in mind that the waste is not composted when you empty the bucket. Human waste should be composted for at least 6 months, preferably 12 months, to ensure pathogens are eliminated. Mixing garden waste, kitchen scraps, and toilet waste helps speed up the process and improve the result. A good rule of thumb is to plan for at least 30 gallons (110 liters) per user, using two containers so one can rest while the other is in use.

Always use a sealed bin or a container with a collection tray to prevent leaching. Make sure it has a solid lid and secured ventilation grates to keep out rodents, insects, and rain.

No need for an agitator or bulking material

Many composting toilet models on the market include an agitator. However, effective composting requires significantly more volume and higher temperatures than what these compact toilets provide, making an agitator unnecessary in units of this size.

Agitators also introduce components that come into direct contact with waste, making them harder to clean and increasing the risk of mechanical failure.

Separett toilets remain odorless thanks to an efficient ventilation fan, without the need to add bulking material or stir the contents. In fact, adding bulking material to the solids container can cause it to fill up faster and may even damage the fan, as fine dust particles can be drawn into the ventilation system.

Handling of the Liquid Waste

The integrated urine container is easy to remove and carry, allowing for convenient and flexible waste handling. Most users empty the container into a standard toilet, a designated greywater system, or an appropriate outdoor disposal site in accordance with local regulations.

To maintain hygiene and prevent odors, it's important to rinse the container with water after each emptying. Additionally, we recommend rinsing the container once every two weeks with a 50/50 water and vinegar mix to help break down residue and eliminate any lingering smells.

If you're stationary and wish to dispose of it outdoors, always follow local waste management and greywater guidelines to ensure safe and responsible disposal.

Very pleased so far!

We installed the Separett Tiny toilet with urine container in our "tiny house on wheels" and have been using it for a little over a month now. While this is the only "compost" separating toilet we've used, we are quite pleased with it so far! We really like how it looks and fits in our bathroom too. For the installation, we did have to get a 1-1/2” flexible coupling and a short piece of 1-1/2” PVC pipe, since the provided vent pipe wasn’t long enough to reach where we needed it to go out through the wall. When we placed the order, it did feel like this product was more expensive than it should be. While we still feel that it was a steep price, that feeling is counteracted a bit by a few things: the toilet does seem well-made and durable, it has multiple valuable features, and Separett's customer service has been excellent.
Not every compost/separating toilet on the market has the "view screen" that keeps the solids container covered and hidden unless you are sitting on the toilet, which is a very nice feature to have. The fan that runs all the time is incredibly quiet and clearly works well, as we haven't noticed any issues with smells so far (other than when it comes time to empty the containers, of course. The odors involved with emptying both containers are unpleasant for sure, but that's a tradeoff for so much less water use and not needing a black water tank). We also use a spray bottle with a water-vinegar mixture to clean out the front/urine section of the toilet with a few sprays after each use. The red indicator light to show when the urine container is almost full is an absolute must-have, so we are very grateful for that too. It is a nice and bright red light, so there's no way to miss it, and you can safely go one more time after the light comes on before it has to be emptied.
The size/capacity of the urine and solids containers seems appropriate. From our research, they are somewhere in the middle amongst other separating toilets on the market. With the two of us using the toilet, the solids container usually needs to be emptied about once per week. The urine container needs to be emptied once every other day. On one hand, it would be nice if the urine container were slightly larger and could last a little longer, but it is already somewhat heavy when full (especially depending how far you have to go to empty it) and being fairly slow and smelly to empty, we wouldn't want that process taking too much longer. So, emptying that every other day seems reasonable to us.
Separett's customer service has certainly been top-notch. When we first received the toilet, the "view screen" wasn't closing all the way properly, and after sending an email, they were quick to reply with a link to a very helpful instructional video showing how to use certain adjustment screws inside the toilet to correct the issue. When we were having an issue with some urine leakage (yes, this was very disappointing and unpleasant, but we got it resolved quickly. Also, due to the design of the toilet, all the spills stayed contained inside the body of the toilet and didn't get onto our floor or anywhere else), they were again quick to reply to my emails and problem solve until we figured out a solution. It turned out that the urine nozzle we had on our toilet was a bad design, and that has since been fixed, so all the toilets now come with an upgraded urine nozzle (which they also sent out to us).
There are a few things we wish could be improved. The large yellow cap (that is used to cover the urine gasket/fill spot when you go to empty the urine container) has consistently been very stiff/awkward to **** on and off. This is most unfortunate after you have emptied the urine container and go to remove that large yellow cap, because it ends up with a little liquid in that cap, so it's challenging to remove smoothly/carefully to avoid a small spill/mess. It would be nice if the urine fill port and the urine empty spout had a slightly larger gap in between for easier cleaning. We chose to use the “urine bowl extension” piece, but it does get dirty under the edges of that quickly. We clean it off almost every time we empty the urine container, but it is already starting to stain there ,unfortunately. Lastly, we were spoiled and used to soft-close toilet seats before this, so it would have been nice if this had a soft-close lid, but definitely not a big deal to get used to not having that.
As long as this toilet holds up well and continues to function properly for a long time to come, we will be very happy with our purchase and choice of compost/separating toilet, and would definitely recommend this product to others!
We have more than five pictures that we were planning to share, but that’s all that the form allowed!

Years of maintenance-free use

We have had the Separette diverting toilet in our van for a couple of years now, and let me tell you it is a game changer. Installation was simple because it only required a 12v power source and a hole for the exhaust vent. Maintenance is easy as it does not need any chemicals or special products.

We use our van almost every week for camping trips, and most recently lived in it for 6 months.

The toilet has performed flawlessly and does not smell. Basic maintenance includes rinsing the urine container with vinegar from time to time, and pouring sand or kitty litter in the solids container after every use.

The only part that has worn in all this time was the rubber gasket at the top of the urine container. When I went to look up a replacement part, I saw they had an upgrade. The upgrade includes a better shaped funnel and a way to prevent the front from depressing. With this upgrade I’m looking forward to many more years of maintenance free use.
