This OMRI Listed coco coir is a natural, organic cover material designed for use in fanless composting toilets like Separett Weekend Prime and Separett Uno. It expands quickly when hydrated and offers excellent absorbency, helping to manage moisture, reduce odors, and improve comfort without the need for ventilation. Coco coir creates a stable surface layer after each use, deterring insects and supporting healthy long-term composting. Made from 100% natural coconut fiber, it decomposes evenly, does not compact excessively, and provides a reliable alternative to sawdust or peat in waterless toilet systems.

Product Details
Coco coir is one of the best cover materials for fanless toilets, offering several natural advantages over sawdust or peat:
- Coco coir is highly absorbent, helping dry out solid waste and maintain better balance in the container.
- Without a ventilation fan, coco coir helps trap smells and improve comfort.
- A layer of coco coir after each use creates a physical barrier that deters insects.
- Adds structure and carbon to the mix, creating ideal conditions for long-term composting.
- Coco coir decomposes evenly and doesn’t compact too tightly or carry spores like other bulking agents.
Volume per brick
Each compressed brick measures 8" × 4" × 2" and expands to approximately 2.5 gallons when hydrated with 11-12 cups of water. The usable volume may increase or decrease depending on the humidity of the storage environment. Storing the material in an airtight container is not recommended, as retained moisture may promote mold growth.

Prepare the toilet
- Line the solids container with a compostable bag if needed.
- Before first use – Add 2 cups of expanded coco coir into the bag
- After each use – Add 1 to cups of expanded coco coir directly onto the solid waste.
Estimated usage: For a family of 2 using the toilet daily, one brick lasts for a bit longer than a week.
Do not pour into the urine bowl – Coco coir can clog the urine pipe or container and restrict flow.
Not for use with fan-equipped toilets – Dry, loose coco coir fibers may be drawn into the fan and cause damage over time.
